How ISA Trend Investing and Longer Life Expectancy Can Help You Make Millions

In a recent blog I shared with you a formula for becoming a liquid millionaire through ISA Trend Investing. I also talked about how it is possible to turn your first million into £75 million by making it a goal to become a centenarian (someone who lives to 100).

The exciting thing is that we all seem to have a relatively high level of control over what age we are going to live to. It is all about cause and effect or as some people put it, sowing and reaping. This means that if you are smart and make a decision that you are going to live a very long life, you can not only enjoy the journey, you can also relish the many decades that follow after you hit your main financial target.

The Power of Choice

I really do believe that we can almost choose how long we want to live. I say this because every single one of us has the power of choice. We can decide how we want to live. I know that this is common sense but it is good to remind ourselves that on the one hand a person can choose to take good care of themselves by eating the right foods, exercising regularly, resting as appropriate etc – or they can choose to neglect their bodies. One course of action will help and the other will hurt.

If a person can start to think longer term they would probably start to make better decisions in the present.

Have you decided how long you want to live for?

How to Increase Your Life Expectancy

As you’ve probably gathered, I am a very big believer in the laws of probability and although it is hard to guarantee things one hundred percent, I think that all of us can put the odds of success on our side if we want to. This leads us very nicely into the subject of life expectancy. Many articles nowadays are telling us that we are living longer. When you see these write-ups in the newspaper, even though I see living longer as a positive, the media almost always seem to put a negative slant on it, stating that because we are living longer, people don’t and won’t have enough cash to cope. Living longer and not having enough money could therefore cause a lot of pain.

That future pain of course could be avoided by some simple financial planning. The positive side to everybody living longer is the fact that when you get your finances in order, you can then enjoy the lifestyle that you have worked so hard to create. I recently did some research on life expectancy and discovered that in 1900, it was only 47.

More recent data from the continuous mortality investigation shows the annual increase in life expectancy of a 65 year old male from 1985 to 2005 was 2%. The statistics showed that the life expectancy of a man, aged 65, living in the UK in 1985 was 78.8 years of age. But in 2005, the life expectancy had jumped to 84.4 years of age.

What would happen if this trend continues?

A person aged 39 in 2008 may expect to live until he or she is almost 100. And that is if he or she just met the average!

This means making better choices in the now – based on long-term thinking – could help a person to live far and above the 100 mark.
